The Digi-RTU is usually not the fault
The Digi-RTU is often the least familiar component in the cabinet, which makes it the first thing suspected when a unit misbehaves. It does not replace routine maintenance: capacitors, condenser fans, contactors, igniters, bearings, belts and other wear parts continue to age and fail independently of the controller.
On a V4 installation the Digi-RTU replaces the OEM equipment controller, so it is the unit's control system rather than an addition to it. Please call us on 402-625-3624 before removing, bypassing or replacing it.
What is the Digi-RTU V4?
Digi-RTU V4 is a unitary controller for HVAC equipment — packaged RTUs, split systems or heat pumps — that completely replaces the OEM equipment controller. The Digi-RTU saves energy by modulating the supply fan and the compressor(s); the sensors it uses and the operations it controls vary by the make and model of the RTU.

Common questions
Is the Digi-RTU a prototype or an experiment?
No. The Digi-RTU has been installed in several thousand units and counting, dating back to 2011. It has been proven in long-term installations, with many case studies documenting the energy savings it provides.
Does modulating the compressors damage them?
The Digi-RTU includes advanced control logic and additional sensors to enable modulation of compressors without causing equipment damage. By modulating the compressor and reducing the number of power cycles — which cause mechanical, thermal and electrical stress — the Digi-RTU reduces wear and tear on compressors and other RTU components.
Does the Digi-RTU affect other wear parts?
While the Digi-RTU reduces wear and tear on several RTU components, it does not eliminate the need for regular preventive maintenance or for replacing degraded wear parts. Capacitors, condenser fans, contactors, igniters, bearings, belts and other wear parts continue to require regular attention, independent of the Digi-RTU controller.
